Can't draw the same thing twice?

I'm in need of some advice.

The reason I'm so finicky about sketching is that I have a problem with drawing the same thing twice. This is particularly bad because it means if I ever work on a draft sketch with the intention of then doing a 'neat' version. The neat version never comes close to the draft and often loses its 'point'. For instance, I drew a bad ass female character as a rough sketch. The lines weren't perfect but the character and detail was there. Trying to then redraw that but cleaner? Not happening. The 'neat' version looks even more amateurish but I can't pinpoint why.

I feel I'm lacking something with my sketches but I can't pinpoint what it is.

Any ideas what I can do to improve things?
